Book I've just finished "Search Inside Yourself: The Unexpected Path to Achieving Success, Happiness (and World Peace)" by Chade-Meng Tan. It's kind of a coincidence that this book ended up in my Amazon wish list and the fact that I have been learning mindfulness and reading about emotional intelligence for quite sometime now. I started with the foundation, meaning, Daniel Goleman's international bestseller "Emotional Intelligence". Since Goleman's book is quite theoretical I also read "Primal Leadership" and "Resonant Leadership". The latter inspired me to learn and practice mindfulness. I have been doing that with the App "Calm". Now, back to the book on focus here. The author, Chade-Meng Tan, is one of Google’s earliest engineers and personal growth pioneer, here he offers a proven method for enhancing mindfulness and emotional intelligence in life and work. The book is based on his experience teaching this program via a classroom course to Google employees. Now, we, readers everywhere, can get insider access to one of the most sought after classes in the country, a course in health, happiness and creativity that is improving the livelihood and productivity of those responsible for one of the most successful businesses in the world.
New blog, I'm reading: Barking Up The Wrong Tree. This looks like a very interesting blog and it was recommended by a friend and blogger "expert". The first text I read was really interesting, "How To Be More Assertive". The key take away for me was that assertiveness is about controlling your own behavior, not theirs. You always have a choice. And the consequences for resisting control by others are rarely as bad as you think. In many ways, while not explicitly, the text relates to Emotional Intelligence and the learning from the book recommendation above. It's all full circle! Once you dive into these topics including the theory and in practice, you can make the links yourself and see how it's all related.
Last year I recommended the amazing season 1 of the HBO show, Westworld. Appart from beign an amazing well told story, there are also lots of deep questions about the future of the humankind. How will we relate to machines? As they become more elaborated, real-life like and increasingly "smart" due to the huge progress of AI. Well, this piece of research tells me that Westworld is not too far away. Yes, I'm exaggerating but this does shed some light on why some characters in the show could get involved as they did with the hosts.
The Joshua Tree is the fifth studio album by U2 and it was released on 9 March 1987. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, last weekend I bought a vinyl copy on a flea-market. Of course, this an obvious choice. The album is a landmark and received critical acclaim, topped the charts, and won several awards, including the Grammy. U2 will celebrate the 30th anniversary with an international tour stretching from May to early August. On each of the dates, the band will play the album in full. Many of the dates are already sold out. Here is the promo video.
